(Newswire.net — June 17, 2019) — A large demographic of today’s society search for ways to obtain the perfect figure. When diet and exercise can’t alter the parts of the body that a patient is looking to change, cosmetic surgery seems to be the ultimate end all solution. Breast lifts, face lifts and nose alterations are just a few of the most common types of cosmetic surgery that are conducted all around the world.

Most Common Types of Cosmetic Surgery

When it comes to cosmetic surgery, it’s important to know how it differs from plastic surgery. Cosmetic surgery will alter your physical appearance to help achieve your end goal. Below are some of the most common cosmetic surgery procedures.

Liposuction

A patient who is considering liposuction does not always do it for aesthetic purposes, sometimes it is because there is a health issue that is caused by the excess fat the body is retaining. Liposuction is the removal of excess fat from certain areas of the body, most commonly the waist, arm, back or thigh area with a medical instrument called a cannula. The cannula is inserted into a small incision made by the surgeon and sucks out the targeted fat. Patients are sedated and the area is numbed prior to the operation.

Rhinoplasty

Most commonly known as a “nose job”. Rhinoplasty is normally done to reshape the nose in a way that it fits better with the other features of someone’s face by reducing the bridge or nostril size, or refine the details of the nose; however, there are cases where people who have trouble breathing need to have surgery to fix the issue. During recovery, patients often experience bruises around the nose and eye area, but with proper hydration, medication and rest, the swelling and bruising should reduce within the week.

Face / Forehead Lift

A facelift is medically referred to as a rhytidectomy. Basically, a facelift is a solution for wrinkles and sagging skin to reduce the appearance of aging. A rhytidectomy is a combination of tightening the eye, forehead or eyelids to look smoother and younger. When wrinkles are more predominant in the area from the hairline to the eyebrows, patients opt for just a forehead lift. Most patients are clear of any bruising and swelling after just 12 weeks.

Breast Lift

After a weight loss or pregnancy, breasts can sag and look like something similar to a deflated balloon. Many women look to have a breast lift to perk up and reposition the breasts. This operation is often paired with a breast implant as well. Unlike a breast augmentation procedure, women often heal from breast lift surgery within two weeks and can go back to their normal routine as usual.

Abdominoplasty

After losing a great amount of weight, especially after pregnancy, some want to undergo a “lower body lift” which removes and tightens excess skin that remains after weight loss. This is not the same as liposuction because there are no fat globules to remove from the body, just skin; however, liposuctions can include tightening the skin. While patients should be careful of any vigorous activity for the following months after surgery, they can generally continue doing mundane tasks after 2 – 3 weeks.

Breast Augmentation

By far the most common form of cosmetic surgery done over 300,000 times a year in the United States. Breast augmentation surgeries have been popular since it’s very first procedure in 1962 and increasingly so as medical science and technology have improved. Most patients are healed within 2 weeks, however there should still be some caution with any kind of exercise or heavy lifting for a couple of months.

To Summarize

Cosmetic surgery procedures expand so much more than what has already been mentioned. The most common types of cosmetic surgery can be done on anything from head to toe. Remember that cosmetic surgery isn’t the same as plastic surgery, so make sure to use the terms correctly.
