Clogged Drains and What To Do About It

(Newswire.net — May 23, 2014) Durham, NC —  There are a couple different versions of what would be considered a clogged drain. If the sink or drain drains slowly then this is a sign of a clog and not a back up. If the drain is slow but only happening around one fixture, just the tub or toilet for example, then the solution may be simple.

Then there are the clogged drains that affect multiple fixates. Such as the entire bathroom either draining slowly or not draining at all. This is a much larger issue and a plunger may not handle the problem effectively if at all.

Lastly there is the clog that backs up and there is a sewer smell. This is the worst and most problematic and requires a professional to handle it. Do not use any of the plumbing fixtures in or around that area or house if possible.

John Dietz says “Most slow drains can be cleared with a little bit of hard work and the right tools like a plunger or more specialized inexpensive drain clearing tools you can pick up at any hardware store. However when there is a sewer smell and multiple drains are backing up that’s where you need a professional because your basic tools are not going to cut it. “ – Owner of JD Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning.

A plunger and a hand auger can be used to solve some of the common slow drain problems that crops up every once and a while. Most slow drains are caused from hair and fats that build up in your drains from soap and regular bathing. These tools are effective at clearing that out, though a homeowner should also wear protective gear when doing any handy work around the house.

If there is ever any doubt or concern always call a professional and don’t risk making the problem worse.
