(Newswire.net — February 7, 2015)  — Vancouver BC, Canada — A new website, Myastorage.com, was announced today. The official website, designed to connect homeowners to renters looking for unique and affordable storage solutions, will be launched in early March. A special pre-launch website is now available to accept registration from homeowners who want to list space and people interested in renting.

The first thousand registrants will be entered for a chance to win cash prizes.

This new website mission is to reinvent self-storage with home-based storage solutions.  It allows homeowners who are looking for ways to make money from home an opportunity to connect with people looking for affordable self-storage.

MyaStorage is the invention of three entrepreneurs, Leszek Skrzypczynski , Mark Spence and Liam Hodgins, who had experienced their own frustration with finding storage space for hiking and biking gear.

The idea came about after a discussion concerning storage and lack of it for two of the three life-long friends. Spence and Hodgins live in urban settings where they have little storage space for seasonal equipment and items too large for the small closets.  Skryzpczynski lives in the suburbs and noticed many homes with extra space that wasn’t being used.   That sparked the conversation that led to a discussion and the ultimate development of Myastorage.

The concept of peer to peer rental is not unique.  Companies like Airbnb, that help homeowners rent their homes to travelers across the world, are flourishing.  It took several years for this method of connecting owners to renters across the internet to take off simply because it was so new and different.

What is unique about MyaStorage is the concept of using peer to peer rental for self storage.

The idea of connecting homeowners and renters via the internet began to spread across the United States, Canada and then globally just five years ago.  The Economist article entitled “Peer to Peer Rental -The Rise of The Sharing Economy” focused on the rapid spread of this phenomenon which has continued to grow exponentially.

Owners jumped on board as they became interested in ways to make money from home during the economic downturn.  By using the internet to find affordable opportunities, more renters have embraced the idea of renting from an individual rather than a company. As more people have moved to urban settings, this has magnified the need for storage solutions when condominiums, apartments and small homes are the only choice.

In a report issued by the National Association of Realtors and reported in the Palm Beach Post, it was stated that “The trend (of moving to the suburbs) is now reversed. Between 2010 and 2013, primary cities with populations of 100,000 or more outgrew suburbs each year.”

This move toward urban living has high appeal among Millennials who prefer living in smaller, denser populations.  Retirees who are downsizing are also gravitating toward the city. At the same time, many empty-nesters with large homes are faced with empty space left by children who grew up and moved out.  This space is exactly the type that will be featured on MyaStorage where homeowners can post pictures, a description and contact information.

“It’s the perfect situation for a homeowner with empty space who would like to make a little extra money to rent that space to someone who needs it. “ said Mark Spence. “It doesn’t make sense to for a renter to rent a large, expensive self-storage unit just to store a pair of skis, boots, and ski pants for the summer. “he continued. All types of unique space will be featured on MyaStorage including shelves, attics, closets and garages. According to the founders, even empty freezers can become rentable storage for hunters who need a place to temporarily store meat.
