(Newswire.net — February 11, 2015)  — New York, NY — Jazz singer Barbara Levy Daniels …not only sings, she mesmerizes… Her voice is mellow and rich, true to pitch, full of expression, the old standards feel so right with Barbara, that they seem like old lovers. She is sensationally communicative.” Grady Harp, Amazon

Ms. Daniels grew up in Buffalo, NY, where she still resides. At the age of 15, she auditioned for ABC Paramount Records in New York City and was signed for a recording contract upon the advice of Ray Charles.

While under contract with Paramount, she recorded “Dear Buddy” written by the up and coming songwriter, Carole King. At the time Carole King was unknown to the public and just starting her career.

More recordings followed with arrangements by Dick Weiss of Bobby Darin’s, “Mack The Knife” fame, a children’s album of songs produced by Woody Herman’s bass player, Chubby Jackson and pop material arranged by Sid Feller, Dakota Staton’s arranger for many years.

During those years Ms. Daniels was known as Barbara Lyons professionally. From a musical family, her parents had a radio show called “Stan And The Lady”. She remembers fondly many family “jams” with Dad on drums and everyone singing the “Great American Songbook” and pop songs of the day.

When her Dad died at the early age of 52, Barbara decided to go to school and received her Master’s in Special Education and Social Work. For the past 30 years she has maintained an active counseling practice.

Music continued to play an important part in Ms. Daniels life and she decided to enroll in school again at the University of Massachusette’s. Here she enrolled in the the Jazz Dept. developed by Dr. Billy Taylor.

Along with the faculty at the University, her jazz skills were nurtured by Sheila Jordan, Yusef Lateef, Sweet Honey In The Rock, Janet Planet and Nancy Kelly among others.

This creative burst produced three CD’s. “They’re Writing Songs Of Love”, “Peel Me A Grape”, “Love Lost and Found”, and the soon to be released fourth CD,  “Come Dance With Me” a tribute to Jimmy Van Heusen, featuring legendary saxophonist, Houston Person and the esteemed guitarist, Gene Bertoncini.

“Come Dance With Me” is a collection of songs penned by Van Heusen. Jimmy Van Heusen is known as an inner circle member of the famed “Rat Pack” from Hollywood’s golden days. Comprised of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Judy Garland, Rex Harrison, Katharine Hepburn, Spencer Tracy, Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall and David Niven.

His was a glamorous life. He was known to fly his private plane for his friends at the drop of a hat. His many road songs composed for Bing Crosby’s films, had both humor and romance aplenty.

He teamed up with many lyricists, among them Sammy Cahn, Johnny Burke, Eddie DeLange, Johnny Mercer and Jimmy Dorsey.

His hits include “Darn That Dream”, “Like Someone In Love”, Polka Dots And Moonbeams”, “All The Way” and many more.

Critics and fans alike are anticipating this new release of Barbara’s interpretation of his classic material.

Born on January 26, 1913 in Syracuse, New York, Jimmy Van Heusen wrote 850 songs in his lifetime. This new CD, will bring to life songs that have stood the test of time and continue to ring true in our lives and hearts.
