(Newswire.net — June 1, 2015) Thomson, Illinois — The swashbuckling family friendly audio theater CD set “Under Drake’s Flag” didn’t win an Audie Award May 28 in New York, but simply being nominated alongside well-known talent such as Oprah Winfrey, Amy Poehler and Mitch Albom was an honor, said executive producer Bill Heid.

The Audies were handed out May 28, with “Under Drake’s Flag” nominated for two awards. Some call them the “Academy Awards of audio.”

“I really felt blessed to be among that company, especially since it was our first production,” Heid said. “It was an honor to be there.”’

Heid’s company, Heirloom Audio Productions, produces Hollywood-quality audio dramas that spotlight heroes of history who were Christians. All of the projects feature big-name talent and original music.

The goal of the CDs, he said, is to “put God back into history.”

Heirloom Audio’s second project was “In Freedom’s Cause,” and its third CD set – “With Lee In Virginia” – is scheduled to be released this summer.

“Under Drake’s Flag” was nominated for two Audies: Best Audio Drama and Best Package Design. Steve Tyrrell of Tyrrell Creative designed the package.

“The House Of The Baskervilles” by L.A. Theatre Works won Best Audio Drama, while “Light At The End” by Big Finish Productions won Best Package Design.

Winners were announced at the Audies Gala and Awards Presentation at the New York Academy of Medicine.

Under Drake’s Flag” stars Brian Blessed (“Star Wars: The Phantom Menace,” “Tarzan”) and tells the story of Sir Francis Drake, who lived in the 16th century and was the first Englishman to circle the globe. It follows a boy, Ned, as he accompanies Drake on high seas adventures.

“What we’re trying to do is put Christian faith back into history,” Heid said. “History in our culture has been sterilized and secularized, with the faith of great men and women completely removed from textbooks. These projects are all about putting Christ back into history in a meaningful and exciting way.”

The projects have been particularly popular among homeschooling and Christian families, who view them as a way of making history fun.
