(Newswire.net — February 8, 2016) Richland Hills, Texas — The Chinese new year, also known as the Spring Festival, is marked by the lunisolar Chinese calendar, so the date changes from year to year.

The festivities usually start the day before the New Year and continue until the Lantern Festival, the 15th day of the new year.

Each Chinese New Year is characterized by one of 12 animals which appear in the Chinese zodiac. The Chinese zodiac is divided into 12 blocks (or houses) and unlike its western counterpart the calendar, each block or house has a length of one year instead of one month.

This year it’s the Year of the Monkey, the ninth animal in the  12-year cycle of the Chinese Zodiac. The next Year of the Monkey will be in 2028.

The personality of the Monkey

People born in the Year of the Monkey are characterized as being intelligent and clever, especially when it comes to their career and wealth. They are also mischievous well-intentioned jokesters who love to play pranks, but don’t mean others any harm.

Those born in the year of the Monkey are also likely to be versatile, flexible, lively and quick-witted.

In addition, it is said that their gentleness and honesty will bring them an everlasting love life.

Although they were born with enviable skills, they still have several shortcomings, such as an impetuous temper (something they must work on in order to drive safely) and a tendency to look down upon others.

Unfortunately, the year of the Monkey it is also believed to be one of the most unlucky years in the Chinese calendar in which to be born

Lucky signs for those born in the year of the Monkey include:

  • Lucky numbers: 1, 7, 8
  • Lucky directions: north, northwest and west
  • Lucky flowers: chrysanthemum, alliums
  • Lucky colors: blue, white and gold
