(Newswire.net — April 27, 2016) Tempe, Arizona — E&J Appliance Service Company provides two useful tips on appliances that will prepare everyone for the summer months. E&J is a family-owned business specializing in major appliance repair. The tips they have given will not only improve the appliances’ efficiency but will also help save money on electricity.

E&J Appliance has emphasized the importance of cleaning the condenser on a refrigerator before summer. A refrigerator’s inability to cool is typically caused by a dirty condenser. Fortunately, all that is needed is to clean the condenser’s coils by removing the dust that has accumulated.

The condenser coils are what cools the hot refrigerant vapors inside their tubes. If they are covered in dust, they will not be able to efficiently expel this heat. The dust prevents the heat from escaping, and so the temperature inside the refrigerator gets warmer. This could eventually result in a refrigerator not cooling.

The warmer temperature makes the compressor cycle refrigerant through the cooling system more times than it used to, increasing the amount of energy the compressor uses. This problem causes an increase in the utility bill and decrease in the refrigerator’s efficiency.

Cleaning the condenser will increase the efficiency of the refrigerator as well as the life of the unit. This should be done at least once a year or more if there are pets that shed in the house or if the unit is located in a dusty location.

To clean the condenser coils, refrigerator owners must first find their location since they are not always in the same place. They can be located either on the back of the refrigerator, under the refrigerator behind the base grille, or on top of it. Refrigerators should be unplugged from the power supply before cleaning to reduce the possibility of an electric shock.

E&J Appliance Service Company also advises to turn down the thermostat on water heaters. The cold water is no longer as cold as it was in the winter, therefore it does not require as much to heat up. Turning down the thermostat will reduce standby heat losses as well as the utility bill since it will no longer have to generate more heat than necessary.
