The newly launched interview focuses on Buki’s recent LinkedIn analysis of the bias implications of Oprah’s interview with Harry and Meghan, which he describes as a “teachable moment”. Sony award-winning presenter Miranda Rae interviewed Buki to discuss workplace bias and how to overcome it. Visit https://youtu.be/gHYt99Z8bMwto to access the interview.

He explains that unconscious bias results from individuals having negative views or ideologies toward specific groups or minorities because of societal conditioning. During the interview, Buki highlights examples of unconscious bias.

For instance, women may be dismissed as being incapable of undertaking certain roles because of unconscious bias. This thinking develops over time because of the media or messages received from friends, family, and society.

“I Don’t Understand?” is the title of Buki’s upcoming book and his method to overcome unconscious bias. The title reflects the fact those in opposition often cannot understand the perspective of others, which can be both frustrating and surprising.

Buki’s method provides practical solutions for dealing with individuals who present unconsciously biased opinions or views, without prompting defensive fragility. During the interview, the recent conversation between Oprah, Harry, and Meghan is discussed.

Buki states that the way the conversation was framed within public spaces was frustrating as there is a crucial difference between offensive and racist statements and anxiety. In addition, he states there is a great deal of hypocrisy surrounding the mass media and its treatment of Meghan.

A representative said: “Buki throws out of the window much of the accepted wisdom around unconscious bias training targeted at minorities. He rejects the guilty perpetrator versus hapless victim model embraced by most corporates, which he sees as counterproductive.”
