Experts Now Warn Against Depression Symptoms in Cases of Alzheimer’s

(Newswire.net — October 5, 2021) Orlando, FL — Alzheimer’s disease is a growing health issue worldwide today. There are many studies looking into the various aspects of this condition, including its symptoms.

A study was published in the JAMA Network Open.

In this research carried out by the scientists from Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), it has been found that depression symptoms could trigger some changes in memory and thinking over time.

It involved cognitively healthy older individuals observed with brain amyloid, which is a biological marker of Alzheimer’s disease.

Jennifer Gatchel, MD, says that their research found that even modest levels of brain amyloid deposition can impact the relationship between depression symptoms and cognitive abilities.

Gatchel is from the MGH Division of Geriatric Psychiatry, and the lead author of the study.

“This raises the possibility that depression symptoms could be targets in clinical trials aimed at delaying the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. Further research is needed in this area,” she adds.

In previous research, it has been found there is a link between depression and cognitive deficits in older individuals.

The researchers suggest that this link may be influenced by the presence of cortical amyloid in unimpaired older adults, which stays true even when depression symptoms are mild to moderate. However, it is worth noting that in this study, not all older adults with symptoms of depression and cortical amyloid will suffer from failing cognition.

An increasing number of research studies are looking into the various aspects of this condition. Foods have been widely studied due to the roles they play in protecting brain health.

According to researchers, foods containing B vitamins may be helpful. These are foods like dairy, fish, and cereals that may have positive effects against Alzheimer’s progression.

A study from Oxford’s Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences was carried out, and it involved more than 150 seniors.

All of the subjects had mild cognitive impairment and were at high risk of developing Alzheimer’s or dementia.

It has been found that compared to the placebo group, the B vitamin group achieved less grey matter. It is worth mentioning that cognitive decline development carries along with certain effects like shrinkage in the grey matter in the brain.

Vitamin B3, in particular, has been able to demonstrate its ability to reverse Alzheimer-linked memory loss in mice. Scientists further reveal that vitamin B12 plays a significant role in cognitive health.

Scientists encourage more studies to look into the powerful healing potentials of B vitamins against Alzheimer’s disease.

These nutrients may be obtained from food but there are also supplements available. One is Purest Vantage Vitamin B Complex, which continues to gain increasing popularity in the global market today.

It contains Choline, Pantothenic acid, Biotin, Vitamin B12, Folic Acid, Niacin, Riboflavin, Thiamin, and vitamin B6 (http://amazon.com/Vitamin-B-Complex-90-Capsules/dp/B0773N3MFK ).
