Omega-3s May Be Potentially Helpful for Junk Food Addicts

(Newswire.net — July 27, 2018) Orlando, FL — Junk food is one of the widely available, unhealthy food options that many people consume nowadays. There are those who consume it on a daily basis or who cannot live a day without it. Unfortunately, junk food eaters may find it difficult to shift to a healthier diet due to various factors.

Omega-3s may be potentially helpful for junk food addicts. Junk food has little to zero nutritional values and they are thought to be rather unhealthy than beneficial to human health. It is believed that omega-3s may be able to help reduce cravings for these commercially-available, unhealthy foods.

For many people, it has become their habit to consume junk food on a daily basis. Regular or overconsumption of these foods is thought to increase one’s risk of developing various diseases. Unfortunately, for some people it is difficult or even impossible to get rid of junk food in their daily diet.

“Omega-3s can be consumed from fish or through supplementation,” said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O’Sullivan.

There are fish types that contain high amounts of omega-3 fats such as halibut, tuna, sardines, and salmon. Taking fish oil supplements is also a great option, as they are thought to contain high concentrations of omega-3 fats.

The researchers from the Institute of Ageing and Chronic Disease, University of Liverpool, conducted a study to determine the effects of these healthy fats on junk food cravings.

According to the study lead researcher, Dr. Lucy Pickavance, they aimed at determining if omega-3s could help stimulate certain processes of the brain and if they aid in weight loss. It is important to remember that junk food is loaded with saturated fats, refined sugars, and macronutrients, which are all linked with significant weight gain.

It has also been found that regular or overconsumption of junk food, which has high levels of unhealthy substances, may increase one’s risk of experiencing mental processing disruption. High-fat diets are thought to disrupt neurogenesis. Neurogenesis pertains to a process where new brain neurons are generated.

An omega-3-rich diet is believed to help stimulate the area of the brain that controls learning, memory, and feeding. While omega-3s may not directly impact neurogenesis, they may have the potential to reduce one’s craving for junk food in the brain.

It is also believed that omega-3s may stimulate nerve growth, interfere with the production of inflammatory molecules, and suppress triglycerides.

There are many potential benefits associated with the use of fish oil. Fish oil supplements can be purchased at local health stores and online.
