(Newswire.net — July 6, 2020) Orlando, FL — As the rate of heart disease continues to soar in many areas around the globe, the scientific community continues to investigate some methods in protecting cardiovascular health.

A study from the New University of Colorado Boulder reveals that changes in the microbiome related to aging can fuel vascular decline.

Vienna Brunt, a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Integrative Physiology, lead author, says that this is the first study to show that changes in the gut microbiome with aging have an adverse impact on vascular health.

“It opens up a whole new avenue of potential interventions to prevent cardiovascular disease,” adds Brunt.

This interesting research was published in the Journal of Physiology.

It is worth noting that in this study, the investigators provided young and old mice with broad-spectrum antibiotics in killing the majority of bacteria in the gut off. The investigators then evaluated the health of their vascular endothelium and the stiffness of their large arteries.

The study findings reveal that after three to four weeks of treatment, there was no change in the vascular health of young mice. However, there were remarkable improvements on all measures in old mice.

According to senior author and professor Doug Seals, director of the Integrative Physiology of Aging Laboratory, when you suppressed the microbiome of the old mice, their vascular health was restored to that of young mice.

While more research studies are still underway to learn more about the influence of gut health on the cardiovascular system, it remains true that maintaining its well-being is vital for disease protection.

In taking better care of gut health, it is strongly recommended to ensure adequate intake of digestive enzymes. It is worth realizing that these enzymes are needed for the breakdown of food into raw building blocks that fuel the body.

They aid in ensuring that food is not just broken down, but their nutrients are also absorbed effectively by the body. It is further worth mentioning that digestive enzymes also offer protection to the gut.

This is due to their ability to break down inflammatory compounds like lectins, which contribute to leaky gut.

Researchers say that different enzymes actually work together to digest varying compounds in one’s diet, and these include sugars or amino acids.

Individuals who want to enhance the health and protection of their gut are advised to increase intake of digestive enzymes. These proteins may be found in food but there are also supplements available.
