(Newswire.net — May 23, 2022) Orlando, FL — Various studies carried out in the past have shown that gut health has a significant influence on overall well-being. It is worth realizing that it is linked with the immune system.

There are actually some studies showing that the gut affects other body processes and well-being, and these include sleep.

A study was carried out and spearheaded by Professor Masashi Yanagisawa at the University of Tsukuba in Japan.

The investigators in this research were trying to focus on the bacterial microbes in the gut, which are considered to be important middlemen in the equation.

It is also worth noting that this study involving mice has shown the extent to which bacteria can alter the environment as well as the contents of the intestines, which are found to be influential on behaviors like sleep.

In this study, the investigators provided a group of mice with a cocktail of antibiotics for four weeks. It is worth noting that it actually depleted them of their intestinal microorganisms. Then, a comparison was made on the intestinal contents between these mice and control mice who had the same diet.

According to experts, digestion works in breaking food down into bits and pieces called metabolites. It has been found that there were significant differences between the metabolites in the microbiota-depleted mice and the control mice.

“We found more than 200 metabolite differences between mouse groups. About 60 normal metabolites were missing in the microbiota-depleted mice, and the others differed in the amount, some more and some less than in the control mice,” Professor Yanagisawa explains.

Aside from sleep benefits, there are actually many other advantages of maintaining gut health. There are many ways to take better care of the gut, such as making healthy dietary improvements.

It is wise to consume foods loaded with digestive enzymes as well as prebiotics and probiotics. These are scientifically-studied foods for digestive health. It is also worth noting that the health of the digestive system is vital for the immune system.
