(Newswire.net — February 24, 2017) — Different skin types need different cleansing regimes to keep them looking radiant and healthy. Fortunately, keeping just about any type of skin looking their best is neither difficult nor expensive. Here are some face masks for different types of skin.
1. Dry Skin
Dry skin usually has a fine texture with no visible pores. It also tends to be thin and sensitive, which is why the dry and sensitive categories often share the same beauty regimen. Skin constantly loses moisture through perspiration and evaporation, but with dry skin, the tiny oil glands don’t secrete enough oil to keep the skin hydrated.
One good mask for dry skin uses a tablespoon each of ground oatmeal, rose water or aloe vera; a teaspoon each of honey and vegetable oil and two drops of rose geranium essential oil. Mix the ingredients, apply to the face, leave on for five to 10 minutes and then rinse. Leftover mask can be kept in the fridge. A substitution for vegetable oil is castor oil, for it mixes well with the other ingredients and is an excellent moisturizer.
Another tip to keep dry/sensitive skin hydrated is to apply cream after rinsing off the mask while the skin is still damp. A cream can be made of 3/4 ounce of shaved beeswax, a cup of vegetable oil, a cup of rose water and six drops of rose essential oil.
Melt the beeswax in a pot with the vegetable oil, and heat the rosewater in another pot. They should both be warm but not too hot to place a finger in. Place the water in a blender, then slowly add the beeswax and vegetable oil. When it solidifies, add the essential oil. Turn off the blender to scrape down the sides, then turn the blender off when the cream is thick, smooth and fragrant. Place the cream in jars with a spatula while it’s still warm.
2. Oily Skin
The oil glands are too active in people with this type of skin, which can lead to breakouts when a person is young but fewer wrinkles as they age. People with oily skin have large pores that are shiny, thick and somewhat coarse. Both summer and winter are fairly terrible for oily skin. The heat of summer and the sweat it produces stimulates the oil glands to produce even more oil. The extra clothing worn in the winter causes the oil to not only build up but attract dirt.
Charcoal and clay masks were created for people with oily skin, for they not only draw out the oil, but draw out the dirt. The best way to use these masks is to steam the face first. Facial steam is made out of pure water with herbs or essential oils. A good mask would be made with a tablespoon of witch hazel, a teaspoon of bentonite clay, one mashed strawberry and two drops of cypress and lemon essential oils. Combine them and leave on for five to 10 minutes, then rinse.
3. Older Skin
Aging skin is prone to drying out, so older people can benefit from the mask used for dry skin. Other clinicians recommend a firming or exfoliating mask. You would mix three tablespoons of baking soda, one teaspoon of honey, three tablespoons of milk, the oil of three or four vitamin E capsules and a quarter of teaspoon of cinnamon. Gently work it into the skin, leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes, then rinse.
These easy masks should keep any type of skin youthful and fresh, no matter the season or the weather.
