(Newswire.net — May 10, 2013) Albuquerque, NM — Albuquerque, New Mexico’s largest city just an hour south from the Santa Fe capitol, has been the center of an increasing amount of interest thanks to television shows (Breaking Bad) and movies (The Lone Ranger, Cowboys and Aliens, The Avengers, The Host, Transformers, No Country For Old Men, etc, etc.), but now, thanks to local author Julie Schoen, it is also the backdrop for the children’s story, The Lost Mariachis (Little Pearl Publishing).
Voted one of the best new children’s books last year, the characters in The Lost Mariachis explore the historic landmarks of Albuquerque’s Old Town, visiting the ancient Lady of Guadalupe cottonwood, the San Felipe de Neri church, the plaza’s gazebo, and even stopping off at one of the plaza’s stores to buy a traditional ristra.
Born and raised in Albuquerque, the 25-year-old author and mother of one wrote the book while studying education at the University of New Mexico. “One of my favorite places to read in college was Old Town’s plaza,” remarks the author. “It was in the plaza one day that I had the idea to write a children’s book, to share the rich history and culture of the heart of our city.”
Little did Schoen know that The Lost Mariachis, the first book she ever wrote, would be the beginning to a successful career as both an author and publisher. Now with an impressive 20 books under her belt and a company (Little Pearl Publishing) that has published nearly 50 titles, Schoen is helping to bring even more attention to the 505.
As a new mom this Mother’s Day, Schoen’s son will turn 1 in July, the author is making her book free on Amazon as a digital download this weekend in celebration of all moms across the United States. “Reading to my son is one of my favorite moments of the day. It’s a chance to laugh, explore, and learn – and it’s something that will stick with him forever.”
For a free copy of The Lost Mariachis stop by Amazon.com before May 14th.
