(Newswire.net — May 20, 2016) Bryan, TEXAS –An award-winning mechanical contractor serving Texas since 1988, Garrett Mechanical, Inc. has announced it has won a bid to install plumbing infrastructure and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Edinburg Campus’ science building now under construction. Ground was broken for the $70 million Science Research Building in October 2015, according to UTGRV news. The structure will be four stories and 115,000 gross square feet when completed. It will include classrooms, research labs, and faculty and researcher offices.

Facilities supporting biology, chemistry, physics, and environmental studies will be integrated into the new building. The structure will be located next to the present three-story structure the science facilities have been based in since 1998. Group study rooms and collaboration spaces will also be integrated. Glass walls will be built into the research labs on the first floor, so instrumentation and activities will be visible to students, researchers, and industry personnel.

Larry Garrett, Vice-President of GMI, said, “We’re proud to be contributing to a project that will enable UTGRV to become the premier research university it plans to be. The plumbing and HVAC systems will maximize the building’s functionality and support a comfortable and productive environment for students and faculty. This project will cover the attention to detail our prestigious clients have benefited from over the past 25+ years.”

The contract is worth a total of over $10,500,000 for GMI. Previously, it had installed underground heating and chilled water supply/return piping from the central utility plant to the facility. The current project is just one of a series of successful achievements over the years. Some have been as prestigious as the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum in College Station, and the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.

In addition, the company has also completed projects at other local schools, hospitals, clinics, and laboratories. Garrett Mechanical also recently contributed to the construction of the Academic Building at the Brownsville’s University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. It installed chilled water systems for the over 101,000 square foot facility.

Since 1988, the company has built up a reputation for installing pipe, plumbing, and HVAC systems. Its pipe-fitting crews and sheet metal work have become notable among high-profile construction markets. A concrete and general contracting division serves a multitude of clients across the region. More than 250 workers are on staff and annual revenues typically exceed $50 million.
