Research Now Warns Against Link Between Air Pollution and Bone Fractures

(Newswire.net — February 17, 2021) Orlando, FL — Experts warn that osteoporosis is a serious and growing global health issue. It is notoriously known not just for its high prevalence but also the fractures it cause.

In the United States, this bone health issue has been found to account for roughly 1.5 million fractures. It is characterized by a reduction in bone mass that is linked with an unacceptably high risk of fracture.

Worldwide, osteoporosis happens to more than 200 million individuals. Still in the U.S., its annual cost to the healthcare system is at the minimum of $5 to $10 billion. In the next 50 years, the rates of osteoporotic fractures are expected to increase by fourfold worldwide.

The increasing prevalence of bone health issues prompt many researchers to carry out studies and explore the culprits behind these problems.

One study was carried out and published in The Lancet Planetary Health.

It was carried out by the researchers at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health.

It has been found that air pollution exposure is linked not just with osteoporosis-related loss of bone mineral density but also the risk of bone fractures.

It is worth noting that these researchers are the first to document high rates of hospital admissions for bone fractures in communities with increased levels of ambient particulate matter (PM2.5). The PM2.5 is a component of air pollution, and it is linked with risk of bone fracture admissions greatest in low-income communities.

The study was based on osteoporosis-related fracture hospital admissions among 9.2 million Medicare enrollees in the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic between 2003-2010.

It has been suggested that even a small increase in PM2.5 concentrations would result in an increase in bone fractures in older adults.

While it may be difficult or even impossible to avoid exposure to air pollution, the good news is that certain measures have been scientifically found to help strengthen bone health.

In an effort to reduce the rates of bone health issues, scientists are looking into the therapeutic benefits of certain natural remedies like turmeric. This powerful healing spice could work wonders in delivering a range of health benefits.

In a recently carried out study, it has been found the use of curcumin significantly increased the bone density in the heel, upper jaw and little finger bones in older men. It is worth noting that curcumin is a phytochemical found in turmeric.

It is worth noting that curcumin has long been popularized by its strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Scientific evidence even show that it can inhibit an essential biochemical mechanisms for osteoclast development known as the RANKL pathway.

Experts say that this is the process usually targeted by powerful bone pharmaceutical drugs. To experience its benefits, it is wise to consider the use of Divine Bounty Curcumin (http://www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-BioPerine-Pepper-Extract/dp/B00VSVKJ8I).
