(Newswire.net — May 26, 2020) Orlando, FL — Researchers have been carrying out studies to learn more about the effective ways to fight liver disease. In the United States, the mortality of chronic liver disease continues to rise.
According to results from an analysis of national data, this has been found to be largely influenced by an increase in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
Lead study author Zobair M. Younossi, MD, MPH, says that he believes it’s all related to a big increase in obesity and type 2 diabetes in the country.
Younossi stated this in an interview in advance of the annual meeting of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases.
“Those two risk factors drive NAFLD and its progressive type, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). That accounts for at least part of the increase in mortality related to liver disease,” he adds.
Dr. Younossi and his colleagues obtained data from National Vital Statistics during 2007-2016. This was an effort to evaluate recent mortality trends in chronic liver disease in the United States.
It is worth mentioning Dr. Younossi chairs the department of medicine at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus, in Falls Church, Va.
He and his colleagues reported findings from 838,809 chronic liver disease–related deaths during the study period.
There are many ways to protect and enhance liver health, and these include reducing or avoiding intake of alcohol. It is similarly important to follow a healthy diet and engage in exercise activities regularly.
Spices like turmeric have been found useful in promoting liver health. Scientists say that it works wonders in eliminating cholesterol from the liver, and this means it may prevent liver disease. In cases of liver disease, fat usually builds up in the liver in amounts exceeding 5 percent to 10 percent of the liver.
Scientists say that curcumin has the ability to communicate with liver cells to create more LDL receptors. It is worth realizing that an increase in receptors allows increased clearance of cholesterol from the body.
Some other studies involving rats reveal that the use of turmeric helped in eliminating toxins easily and in a more efficient way. It has even been able to offer protective to the liver from certain toxins and repair damage.
In cases of liver damage due to excessive alcohol intake, turmeric has been found to assist the liver. Researchers say that it increases bile secretion, and this is helpful in enhancing digestion.
While more research studies are still being carried out to learn more about turmeric’s liver-protecting benefits, its use is highly recommended.
Multiple research studies suggest curcumin has genoprotective, adaptogenic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anticarcinogenic, antiviral, renoprotective, androgenic, antifibrotic, neurorestorative, and metal-chelating properties.
It also contains anticoagulant, antioxidant, anti-amyloidogenic, antibiotic, antimicrobial, anti-purulent, immunomodulating, and anticatabolic agents.
