(Newswire.net — February 20, 2017) Orlando, FL — There are people who are more susceptible to injuries than others. One of the most common injuries impacts the hip, which is believed to result in fatal consequences in some situations.

A study shows that women who break a hip are may be at an increased risk of mortality within a year. There are many reasons why hips may break, and when this occurs it may cause a great deal of complications to sufferers.

According to a Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research study, women belonging to the age bracket of 65 to 69 years of age and who break a hip may be five times more susceptible to dying within a year. They were compared to women of the same age and who have not suffered a broken hip. The research study was funded by the National Institutes of Health and published online in the Archives of Internal Medicine.

Erin S. LeBlanc, MD, MPH, lead author and investigator at the Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research in Portland, OR, reveals that they consider the study to be a wake-up call. The critical time is during the first year after the occurrence of hip fracture for elderly individuals, and most especially for women who are 65 to 69 years old.

It was found that the participants had a significantly higher death rate than their peers. Measures should be taken to prevent the occurrence of hip fractures. Experts also recommend that women should be given the care they need after the fracture to reduce the risk of death.

There have been studies that found the link between hip injury and high mortality risk. However, most of the studies concluded that heightened risk was not due to the fracture, but because of certain underlying conditions. Some of these medical conditions include stroke, heart disease, or diabetes.

Teresa Hillier, MD, MS, co-author and Senior Investigator at the Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research, reveals that the study indicates it may not just be poor health but also hip fracture that places women at the mortality risk.

Fractures can be caused by a variety of factors, such as arthritis. This condition may cause pain, immobility, and other symptoms. There are many individuals who resort to a variety of measures to improve their overall condition.

One of these measures is the use of natural alternatives, such as glucosamine. This ingredient naturally occurs inside the body, and is believed to help repair cartilage damage.

Glucosamine is believed to be one of the most popular joint health supplements today. One of the most notable glucosamine supplements contains other potentially beneficial ingredients, such as chondroitin, MSM, and turmeric.
