Getting A Job Is Easy If You Are Internet-Savvy

(Newswire.net — March 04, 2013) Los Angeles, California – Today’s job search has gone beyond the usual resume drop. Gone are the days when a person seeking work only needs to browse the classified ads of a newspaper and mail their resume to a potential employer with the hopes that said document will be read.

Today serious job seekers must take the Internet and demonstrate not just their personal skillset but also their online savvy to land the job they want.

“Online technology has really changed the way the job search is done,” says Michelle Smithfield, owner of SearchingJobs.net. “If a candidate is not familiar with how this online technology works, the chances that he or she will be hired by a good company becomes very, very slim.”

The reason for this, according to Smithfield, is more and more companies are taking their business to the Internet. They still have physical offices and storefronts, but many aspects of their operations – such as marketing, sales and communications – are now being conducted mostly online.

Employers are not just looking for candidates who have the qualifications for the job postings they have. They want candidates who can easily jump into the online bandwagon without blinking.

“Employers consider candidates with Internet-savvy and who are willing to use the Internet to showcase their skills and talents to be out-of-the-box thinkers,” says Smithfield. “Out-of-the-box thinking is how companies get ahead of the pack these days, after all.”

One useful bit of knowledge that all job seekers today must have, stated Smithfield, is how to create resumes that are not only impressive but can also easily pass through the filters headhunters have pre-set.

A hiring officer’s inbox gets flooded with hundreds, if not thousands, of emailed applications daily. To sift through these applications, hiring officers typically set filters with specific keywords fitting the position they are offering.

If a resume does not contain these keywords, they will be sent straight to the trash folder without even being read.

The SearchingJobs.net owner added that employers have now stopped taking a candidate’s resume at face value. A job seeker must show they really have the skills listed on their resume.

“Internet savvy has really become so important in the job hunt,” says Smithfield. “If a job seeker wants to be hired today, he or she really must use the Internet to get that job they want.”
