In a recent post, editors of Gadgets Made Simple praised Scott Tucker, the manager of the Merrillville, Indiana Gander Mountain sporting goods store for re-focusing the store’s direction to provide firearms to the community. The recent news was originally reported by the NWI Times.
Gander Mountain began it’s initiative to focus on firearms with stores in Wisconsin. According to Scott Tucker, the Merrillville store is the sixth Gander Mountain store in the nation to re-open with a focus on firearms. As part of the change, the store eliminated fishing and marine supplies, and removed the majority of camping gear available, except for items used in outdoor food preparation.
The Merrillville Gander Mountain store is now a “mega-gun store” as characterized by store manager Scott Tucker. The store’s new inventory includes over 4,000 firearms, including handguns, rifles, shotguns and tactical guns like the AR 15. The store will also now purchase handguns, long guns and gun collections from individuals. Tucker reported that individuals selling firearms to the store will need to provide a photo ID and comply with all local, state and federal laws.
The Merrillville Gander Mountain is located in a 36,000 square foot space on the property of a shopping mall. In addition to firearms, the store provides ammunition, apparel, accessories and security systems. The store also carries safety equipment as part of the “With Rights Come Responsibility: Secure Your Firearms” initiative. Customers can purchase a variety of safety equipment ranging from trigger locks to fire proof guns safes capable of securing up to sixty guns.
