(Newswire.net — January 23, 2014) Singapore — Singapore American School (SAS) grad Tyler Stuart has received the prestigious Bell Scholarship from Canada’s top undergraduate school, Mount Allison University. Valued at $48,000 over four years, the scholarship is the premiere entrance scholarship at Mount Allison.

“I’m really happy with my experience at Mount Allison thus far — there are opportunities daily to meet incredible people on a personal level,” says Stuart, who was born in Switzerland and has also lived in the US, Indonesia, and Singapore. “My professors, and many administrators, knew me by name in a very short time.”

Stuart came to Mount Allison following a conversation with graduate Rob Burroughs (’13). “I met him (Burroughs) at the Global Issue Network conference in held at Jakarta International School. He was presenting on Grassroots soccer, and shared his experience at Mount Allison,” explains Stuart. “I did a campus tour last year and was set on Mount A. I didn’t apply anywhere else.”

As features editor for the Argosy, Mount Allison’s independent student newspaper, Stuart has immersed himself in many areas of campus life and is happy for it.

“The experiential learning component, in addition to my classes, is very important,” he says. “Just being here is a great learning experience; it’s completely different from Singapore.”

In addition to the Argosy, Stuart is also involved in Leadership Mount Allison, the University’s signature leadership development program, and intramural soccer.

Stuart plans to pursue a degree in international relations and become an international journalist.

Stuart’s father Tim, the Principal at SAS High School, shared how excited he and his wife are about their son winning this award, “We are so proud of Tyler mostly because he’s really found his place at Mount Allison and is thriving.”

Established in 1956, the school primarily serves the American and international expatriate communities of Singapore. SAS is registered with the Singapore Council for Private Education, affiliated with the Office of Overseas Schools through the U.S. Department of State, and is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
