(Newswire.net — March 5, 2015) Gainesville, VA — Freeman & Sherburne, a full-service insurance agency, doesn’t just serve Virginia residents by providing affordable coverage; the company periodically extends help to the less fortunate. Just last month, its valuable staff member, Andrea Brown, helped organize a food drive to help the homeless in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area. Although Brown has worked on various charitable events, she received unprecedented support from House of Mercy and the manager (Mr. Yong) of the Wellington McDonald’s located at 10216 Dumfries Rd.  Freeman & Sherburne and Ms. Brown wish to publicly recognize their efforts.

The House of Mercy in Manassas, Virginia has significant experience in helping the less fortunate. The charity organization runs a thrift store and Project Share, which collects and distributes nutritious food to those who are in need. For this particular food drive, House of Mercy, in conjunction with  Freeman & Sherburne’s Andrea Brown, put together over 50 sandwiches, pudding snacks, clothing items, and personal hygiene packets for Washington D.C.’s homeless. Since House of Mercy is run entirely by volunteers, it just makes their efforts even more selfless and praiseworthy.

Last month’s food drive also found assistance in an unexpected place – the Wellington McDonald’s in Manassas. Its manager, Mr. Yong, offered a deep food discount to help feed the Washington, D.C. needy. Volunteers, as well as family & friends of Freeman & Sherburne contributed approximately 100 bottles of water along with winter coats, general clothing and other items. Altogether, House of Mercy, Freeman & Sherburne, and its associates were able to collect enough food and clothing to benefit many needy people on Washington, D.C.’s streets.

On Feb 22, 2015, Andrea Brown and several volunteers from House of Mercy packed an SUV with all of the donated and purchased items. They drove to Franklin Square Park, fed those who were hungry, and provided warm clothing to as many homeless as possible. When all was said and done, there were only 20 cookies remaining. Ms. Brown and the rest of Freeman & Sherburne recognize that the charitable event could not have been so successful without the efforts of House of Mercy and Mr. Yong (manager of the Wellington McDonald’s), and they extend their thanks.
