(Newswire.net — April 13, 2015) Kingston 10, Kingston The collaboration resulted in ten digital baby thermometers being donated to the institution, which will assist medical staff in quickly taking temperature readings from the ear of patients for the first time.

The handover was made on the 18th of March by Ms. Trishana Walker, Press Release Moderator at Internet Income Jamaica, on the grounds of the hospital. They were accepted on behalf of the institution by Dr. Sandria Young-Peart (Consultant Head of Accident & Emergency Dept.), Mrs. Kathleen Cooper-Brown (Acting Hospital Administrator) and hospital CEO, Mr. Anthony Wood. The donation is seen as vital to the cause of the Bustamante Children’s Hospital, which is the only full service institution of its kind in the English-speaking Caribbean.

Those on hand to accept the donation expressed gratitude upon receiving the digital thermometers. Dr. Young-Peart noted that the devices will make it easier for staff to take accurate temperature readings from patients. It was pointed out that children may not sit still while their temperature is being taken with underarm thermometers, which are currently in use at the hospital. The digital thermometers, provided by Just-Brill, allow for temperatures to be taken within a matter of seconds from the ear canal. They use infrared laser technology to record internal temperature from the head, which is the type required by doctors and official health personnel in order to make correct diagnoses and provide appropriate treatment.

Just-Brill’s digital baby thermometers are highly rated among parents and medical professionals for their accuracy and quality. They are suitable for infants, toddlers and older children – the segment catered to by the Bustamante Children’s Hospital. Additionally, the thermometers have a number of features, which offer additional benefits for both patients and caregivers. These include the ability to recall the last ten readings, automatic shutoff after one minute of inactivity to preserve battery life and the fact that it does not require disposable probe covers, which may prove to be both expensive and unhygienic.

With the children’s hospital constantly in need of equipment and financial assistance, the donation of the digital ear thermometers by Internet Income Jamaica and Just-Brill will help enhance the delivery of care to current and future patients of the hospital.
