(Newswire.net — December 15, 2016) Orlando, FL — The importance of magnesium is often overlooked by many. However, experts recommend that consumers should be mindful about the magnesium levels in their body to maintain overall health.

Lack of energy or exhaustion could be a sign of magnesium deficiency. According to experts, when there is too little magnesium in one’s diet, the body tends to work harder.

Consumers are advised to increase their intake of magnesium-rich foods. Some of these foods are pumpkin seeds, bran muffins, buckwheat flour, barley, and low-fat vanilla yogurt.

While most people believe that phosphorus and calcium are the most important nutrients for bone health, it is important to remember that the significance of magnesium should not be overlooked.

Magnesium plays a role in hundreds of biochemical reactions. Many of these reactions keep the bones strong as well as the heart rhythm healthy. This healing mineral also has the potential to keep the nervous system functioning smoothly.

Henry C. Lukaski, ARS physiologist and Forrest H. Nielsen, a nutritionist, reveal the significant findings on the effects of magnesium depletion on energy metabolism in the body.

These two researchers along with the ARS’s Grand Forks Human Nutrition Research Center support staff demonstrated that inadequate levels of magnesium has been linked with the increased need of oxygen during exercise.

The researchers found that during moderate activity, individuals with low magnesium levels in their muscles were likely to use more energy. Thus, they get tired more quickly than those with adequate magnesium levels.

The first phase of the study involved 10 postmenopausal women which had a controlled diet with sufficient amounts of magnesium for 35 days.

The next phase involved a low-magnesium diet that offered less than half the recommended daily magnesium intake for 93 days. The last phase, on the other hand, provided a magnesium-adequate diet for 49 days.

The participants of the study were made to have exercise tests at the end of each dietary phase. These exercise tests were also conducted with physiological and biochemical tests.

The researchers found that low-magnesium diet has resulted in significant loss of magnesium. The participants also had reduced muscle levels of magnesium, and their red blood cells were found to be at the low end of the normal range.

This study was published in the Journal Of Nutrition in 2002. One of the ways to reduce the risk of deficiency is to simply use a magnesium oil spray. This product delivers magnesium efficiently via the skin (http://amazon.com/Pure-Magnesium-Oil-Spray-Transdermal/dp/B011T9TASI ).
