(Newswire.net — March 24, 2022) Orlando, FL — Studies looking into urinary tract infections and the bacteria causing such a urinary health issue continue to pile up.
One study has particularly shown that some of the bacteria plaguing women with urinary tract infections (UTIs) can invade the human bladder cells.
This interesting research was carried out by scientists at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
Previously, a majority of researchers assumed that the bacteria behind the infections penetrate the bladder but do not invade the individual cells lining the interior of the bladder.
“Our animal model of UTIs has allowed us to make a number of predictions about human UTIs, but at the end of the day, we felt it was critical to show this in humans, and now we’ve done just that,” says senior author Scott J. Hultgren, Ph.D.,
Hultgren is the Helen L. Stoever Professor of Molecular Microbiology at the School of Medicine.
It is believed that the bacterium Escherichia coli is accountable for 80 percent to 90 percent of UTIs. This type of infection usually happens to women and is considered to be one of the most common bacterial infections in the United States.
Researchers estimate that more than half of all women have UTIs in their lifetimes. Further, recurrent UTIs will happen to20 percent to 40 percent of those patients.
“Recurrence is one of the biggest problems of UTIs,” says Hultgren. “Even though we have treatments that eliminate the acute symptoms, the fact that the disease keeps recurring in so many women tells me that we need to develop better treatments.”
The findings of this study were published in the Public Library of Science Medicine.
Studies looking into the various aspects of UTIs continue to pile up. It is worth noting that the rates of this infection continue to grow worldwide, and drive the need and demand for antibiotics.
Unfortunately, the misuse or overuse of this infection also leads to the increasing prevalence of antimicrobial resistance. Experts have long warned that this is a growing public health issue.
Some all-natural remedies have been found particularly helpful in warding off UTIs, and these include the therapeutic sugar called D-mannose. This is used as a preventive remedy and treatment for the infection.
Today, it is obtained widely through the use of formulas like Divine Bounty D-mannose. This amazing supplement is known for its high potency and purity and is gaining more and more positive reviews from consumers. (http://www.amazon.com/D-Mannose-600mg-Cranberry-Dandelion-Extract/dp/B01LX5KGF0)
