(Newswire.net — May 20, 2022) Orlando, FL — Around the globe, there are around 300 million people who struggle with depression. This mental health issue is undeniably common today, and its rates have skyrocketed even more during the pandemic.

In various research studies, it has been found that food choices have an influence on the odds of having this condition.

Researchers from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the University of Granada carried out a study.

In this research, it has been found that there is a link between fast food intake and the increased risk of depression. It is worth noting that in previous studies, such an association has long been established.

The findings were published in the Public Health Nutrition journal.

The investigators have found that intake of commercial baked goods and fast food is linked with depression. Exampled of baked goods are croissants, fairy cakes, and doughnuts and fast food means hotdogs, hamburgers, and pizza.

They have particularly revealed that fast-food consumers are 51 percent more susceptible to having depression than those who eat little or no fast food.

“The more fast food you consume, the greater the risk of depression,” said Almudena Sánchez-Villegas, lead author of the study.

Subjects in this research who consumed most fast food as well as commercial baked goods were more likely to be single, less active physically, and have poor dietary habits. This means they had reduced consumption of fruits, nuts, fish, vegetables, and olive oil.

There are other prevalent characteristics of this group, such as smoking and working more than 45 hours per week.

The investigators also pointed out that even consumption of small quantities is associated with a significantly increased chance of developing depression.

Over the years, researchers have been investigating the impacts of certain measures on the brain, particularly mental health. It has been found that some nutrients like B vitamins produce antidepressant benefits.

In some studies, it has been found that certain B Vitamins work wonders in fighting depression. Today, there are formulas like Divine Bounty B Vitamin Complex that are widely reported by consumers.
