(Newswire.net — December 28, 2022) Orlando, FL — Over the years, researchers have been investigating the impacts of sleep on health. Health authorities have long been showing that getting adequate sleep is essential for the bones.

A study was recently carried out and published in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research.

This study, which involved 11,084 postmenopausal women, has shown that there is an association between getting too little sleep and the increased odds of low bone mineral density (BMD) and osteoporosis development.

It has been found that those who had 5 hours or less of sleep every night had reduced BMD at all four sites compared to those who had a 7-hour sleep per night. These four sites are the total hip, spine, neck, and whole body.

After making adjustments, women with the 5-hour sleep had 22 percent and 63 percent increased risks of low bone mass and hip osteoporosis, respectively.

“Our study suggests that sleep may negatively impact bone health, adding to the list of the negative health impacts of poor sleep. I hope that it can also serve as a reminder to strive for the recommended 7 or more hours of sleep per night for our physical and mental health,” said lead author Heather Ochs-Balcom, Ph.D., of the University at Buffalo.

The findings of this research were published in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research.

“Our study suggests that sleep may negatively impact bone health, adding to the list of the negative health impacts of poor sleep,” says study lead author Heather Ochs-Balcom.

Ochs-Balcom is an associate professor of epidemiology and environmental health at the School of Public Health and Health Professions.

A number of research studies highlighted the relevance of maintaining adequate sleep for disease protection. There are also some studies suggesting that certain measures are particularly helpful in getting a good slumber.

It is best to ensure the body has adequate levels of nutrients like B vitamins, which have disease-fighting benefits. Over the years, researchers have been highlighting the impacts of B vitamins on disease protection.

Some studies suggest there are B vitamins particularly helpful in enhancing sleep quality and quantity. These nutrients have been found to play roles in various processes inside the body.
