(Newswire.net — March 5, 2015)  — According to Census data, there are 39.6 million Americans who claim Irish heritage, including five million who say they are of Scots Irish heritage. Most of the Scots-Irish (Or Scotch Irish) settled in colonial America and the Appalachian region, extending from western Pennsylvania to Georgia, including Tennessee. This year Nashville will for the first time celebrate St Patricks Day and the Irish culture and heritage in an exciting extravaganza known as Music City Irish Fest.

“I am passionate about showing the people of Nashville that the roots of Country and Bluegrass music originates in Ireland” says Brenda Willis, Executive Director of the festival. “I am in love with Irish music but mostly I am in love with the culture of Ireland; I love how they honor and respect the older generation and the old traditions and I want to teach my kids these same values”.

Brenda Willis is the matriarch of the renowned ‘The Willis Clan’, a family that has achieved great success as musicians, dancers, athletes, writers, and artists.  Living near Nashville Tennessee, they merge their Irish roots with other music and dance genres to create a unique blend of the old and new.

Music City Irish Fest will take place on Demonbreun St in downtown Nashville on March 14th. The lineup includes the Southern Academy of Irish Dance, Beat Root, Colm Kirwan, The Willis Clan and the headliner of the Festival, the Red Hot Chilli Pipers.

One group that is thrilled about the St Patricks Day festival isThe Irish Gift, Inc. an organization that preserves an old Irish music style called the East Galway Irish Music Tradition (EGIMT). Éilís Crean, founder of The Irish Gift, Inc hails originally from Co. Roscommon, Ireland and moved to the Nashville area over four years ago and knows first-hand how many people in middle Tennessee have been longing for someone to bring together the Irish community in this area.

“I am so very thankful to Brenda Willis for taking the initiative to honor and celebrate Ireland and the Irish culture in a real way. This festival will bring so much joy and pride to the Irish ex-patriots and Irish Americans in this area. It is the first step in a larger initiative to really give the Irish Middle Tennesseans a place to honor their forefathers and get excited about their Irish identity”

It is because Brenda’s ancestors came from Ireland that she was driven to reach out to the NCVC and the owner of Dan McGuinness’ pub to have Irish music and culture take center stage this St. Patricks Day. “I know first-hand how important that it is to be able to celebrate this heritage and to be able to teach my children about their ancestry and who they are because of it” says Brenda who has been busy this week being shadowed by TLC as they continue the recording for the next series of the reality TV show based on ‘The Willis Clan’.

Music City Fest is being sponsored by Tourism Ireland and this group along with The Irish Gift, Inc and others will be available for consultation and good conversation throughout the festivities.
