(Newswire.net — May 11, 2015) Singapore, Singapore — Singapore American School has been named an Apple Distinguished School, one of only eight in South Asia. The Apple Distinguished School honor is reserved for programs that meet criteria for innovation, leadership, and educational excellence, and demonstrate a clear vision of an exemplary learning environment.

Singapore American School emphasizes innovation in its curriculum, its teaching practices, and in the approach to experiences that students have. Superintendent Dr. Chip Kimball stated, “At Singapore American School, cultivating exceptional thinkers is central to everything we do. We embed innovative practices and world-class tools into all of our programs helping students develop the skills they need to succeed in whatever their future may bring. We open up a world of possibilities to each and every student that studies here.”

Singapore American School partners with Apple to deliver the most innovative learning-centered technology into classrooms and student experiences beyond the campus walls. Technology is fully integrated into the curriculum at every grade level at SAS, with one-to-one iPads in the elementary school, one-to-one MacBook Air laptops in middle school, and one-to-one ‘bring your own’ devices in the high school. To further strengthen student learning and encourage leading-edge teaching practices, the school has Apple TVs in every classroom, allowing teachers and students to project lessons, share projects, and detail assignments wirelessly with any device. It is the largest installation of this technology at a K-12 campus anywhere.

Technology is purposefully incorporated as a tool for learning in core classrooms as well as in support services, world languages, PE, art, science, and music, and more than 2,000 SAS students publish blogs as portfolios for their work.

Jason Cone, Singapore American School’s executive director of technology, noted, “We’re constantly looking through the lens of how technology can enhance learning at SAS. As a result, our student learning has become more customized, collaborative, and expansive.”

Singapore American School has ten Apple Distinguished Educators. Additionally, in every division throughout Singapore American School, educational technology coaches guide teachers, work with students, run digital citizen boot camps, host informational parent coffees, and lead the school in technological approaches to teaching and learning. The school’s educational technology team led more than 250 trainings, sessions, and meetings last year to support teachers in integrating technology.

At Singapore American School, when students begin learning to harness the power of technology to achieve their academic goals, digital citizenship is front and center. The school partners with global leaders in digital citizenship Robyn Treyvaud and Common Sense Media, and together will soon publish a digital citizenship resource to train educators, develop a train-the-trainer program, and engage parents and teachers at other schools around the world.
