(Newswire.net — October 6, 2022) Orlando, FL — Osteoarthritis is a condition known to affect women more. However, there are studies revealing that it is common in men, especially former athletes.

The researchers from the University of Nottingham School of Medicine, spearheaded by Gwen Fernandes, Ph.D., and Sanjay Parekh carried out a study.

In this research, it has been found retired male soccer players are more susceptible than the general population to have knee problems including osteoarthritis (OA).

The researchers shared their results with related studies involving former professional soccer players at the annual meeting of the American College of Rheumatology.

Compared to the general population, knee replacement, knee pain, physician diagnosis, and Radiographic chondrocalcinosis were found to be more prevalent in the ex-players.

This is just one of the studies that looked into the prevalence of osteoarthritis in former athletes. There are also studies investigating the effects of natural remedies for pain relief.

Osteoarthritis affects many people in the United States alone. It produces symptoms like pain and stiffness and may also reduce one’s overall mobility. This condition also referred to as wear-and-tear disease could lead to the loss of cartilage and joint pain.

While there are medications like nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) available, their use is linked with side effects. This is why experts are strongly recommending some measures that could aid in helping reduce pain.

The good news is that nutrients like manganese may be beneficial, especially when combined with glucosamine and chondroitin. Manganese may reduce inflammation, which many studies say is linked with osteoarthritis.

Studies reveal that the combination of manganese, glucosamine, and chondroitin has decreased osteoarthritis pain.

A study was carried out and it involved 93 subjects with osteoarthritis. It has been found that intake of glucosamine, chondroitin, and manganese led in the improvements of symptoms by 52 percent after 4 and 6 months of intake.

In another study, which lasted for 16 weeks, it has been found intake of manganese supplement aided in reducing inflammation specifically in the knees. It is worth mentioning that the subjects in this study had chronic pain and degenerative joint disease.

More research studies are still being carried out to explore more of the healing goodness of this natural remedy. However, it is hard to deny that its use is widespread and is gaining more and more attention in the scientific community.
