(Newswire.net — September 25, 2019) — The launch of a formal investigation that could lead to the removal of President Donald Trump has been announced by Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

The basis of the proceeding probably comes from Trump, in an effort to secure re-election, asking the President of Ukraine to investigate the activities of his political rival Joe Biden and his son, who were allegedly privileged to do business with Ukraine at the time that Biden was US Vice President.

The US President accused Biden of extreme corruption. “If a Republican ever did what Joe Biden did, if a Republican ever said what Joe Biden said, they’d be getting the electric chair right now,” Trump said accusing the media for biased reporting. “They probably know that Joe Biden and his son are corrupt,” the president said. “But the fake news doesn’t want to report it, because they’re Democrats.”

Despite the video evidence confirming that Biden did, in fact strong-arm the Ukrainian government, mainstream media outlets such as CNN quickly dismissed the story outright as a “conspiracy theory.”

Nancy Pelosi responded with an impeachment investigation saying that the process is “a betrayal of the US state interests” and a “betrayal of the election” for the president. “Today, I announce that the House of Representatives is launching an official investigation into the impeachment process,” she said.

Trump responded to this by tweeting from the United Nations General Assembly in New York that the impeachment would be “a positive for me,” adding “we will win the election.”

Democrats in Congress have threatened to impeach Trump countless times already – sometimes for non-offenses like “being such good friends with Putin,” or making up mean nicknames. However, this latest effort has garnered some more momentum than previous attempts.

If the alleged evidence against Trump is sufficient for the impeachment process, Pelosi made a right move. However, if it fails, her party will face an angry electorate – both Republican and Democrat for next year’s elections.

Democratic Party, 2020 candidate Tulsi Gabbard said she does not support impeachment proceedings against President Trump.“I think impeachment would be terribly divisive for our already very divided country,” she told CNN’s Brooke Baldwin, adding, “It’s important Donald Trump is voted out of office by the American people.”

Trump has claimed in recent days that he has done nothing wrong and has announced that he will release a transcript of a telephone interview with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. However, the Democratic chief of the House of Representatives said that the president’s actions have violated the Constitution “… and he must be held accountable,” because “no one is above the law.”

The process of removing the president from office can be initiated in cases of treason, corruption and crime, but no US president has been removed from office by impeachment. Richard Nixon, resigned before a vote in Congress.
