(Wall Street Journal via Newswire.net — November 16, 2013) Austin, TX — Pictivism on Facebook, activism in the form of pictures, has been criticized for not making a real impact on the causes they are intended to support. Multi-talented painter, sculptor, welder, and photographer Ori Bengal has found a way to leverage the viral Facebook profile picture giraffe riddle meme into a wildly successful fundraising promotion for Movember.

After submitting the wrong answer to the giraffe riddle, Bengal decided to paint a giraffe of his own to use as his profile picture. His Facebook friends loved it and his giraffe went viral. It quickly became the most popular giraffe profile picture on Facebook.

When a Movember supporter decided to use a different giraffe wearing a mustache, Bengal had an idea. He decided that giving away original mustached animal prints is a wonderful way to turn the giraffe meme into a promotion for Movember.

Movember’s tagline is “Changing the Face of Men’s Health.” Each November, men let their mustaches grow and encourage the community to donate money to help fund men’s health programs and research. Movember focuses on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health. In 2012, participants and supporters raised more than $147 million.

“I’m creating a series of limited-edition 18” x 24” giclée prints of original paintings of mustached animals. They are only available during Movember – and only to those who donate to the cause through my Mo Space page,” explains Bengal. “These pieces would normally sell for $400. Giving them away is a small way for me to support a dear friend and mentor of mine who is undergoing chemotherapy for his colon cancer.”

Ori Bengal is a full time artist who has been creating paintings every day since he decided to pursue art on April 23, 2012. Due to his diverse styles and use of many mediums, he has been called The Master of Imagination. His paintings are in high demand, and available on his website OriBengal.com.
